
“Lobster in the Woods,” is a rag rug whose colors were inspired by the lobster mushrooms that my daughter and I found growing on our farm in British Columbia. They came in the fall, and reached their brightest red-orange just when the first frost hit the woods. They were spectacular to find, poking up out of dense, dark undergrowth, and we often went hunting them early in the morning when the sunlight came down in dramatic lines through the forest. I read that they were edible, but never tried one myself, preferring to go visit them daily to see them progress from vibrant orange to a deep, rich, velvety maroon.
